About Us

Introduction to Cardiff Gate Training and Development Centre

Cardiff Gate Training and Development Centre opened in September 2005 and has ensured that South Wales Fire and Rescue Service has received the highest quality of training using the most modern and innovative facilities available. A key milestone for the centre was the official opening by the First minister for Wales, Rhodri Morgan, on 5th June 2006.

Customer feedback shows that the venue, facilities and quality of training exceed their expectations. As a focal point for training the centre demonstrates the organisations commitment to improvement through the development of its personnel and the communities of South Wales

A Partnership

The successful partnership with Babcock allows the training staff to concentrate on the development and delivery of courses, whilst Babcock undertakes the day-to-day management and maintenance of the centre. Additionally, Babcock also delivers a wide range of courses to the public and private sectors.

Courses

We deliver a variety of courses, ranging from Fire Training, to IT, to Management Training. Information about all our course provision can be found on the downloadable Prospectus (both for Fire Service and Commercial training) in the Courses section on this website. Please consider the environment before printing!

Successes

A notable success in 2007 was the award of BTEC accreditation for the Firefighter Initial trainee course. Wholetime and Retained Firefighters are now trained alongside one-another, with the option for those working the Retained Duty System having the opportunity to attend either a 12-week course or a modularised version, over a two-year period. The Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) have also awarded us approved centre status for the delivery of Health and Safety Training.
